Surface cleaner, not a wand
A wand cleans in a narrow fan, which means overlapping passes and visible arcs left behind. A rotary surface cleaner covers a wide, even path at consistent pressure and distance — the concrete comes out one uniform color.
It's slower to set up, and it's the reason our driveways don't look like tiger stripes when the sun hits them.
Stains are a different job than dirt
General grime, algae and mildew come off with the surface clean. Actual stains need chemistry, and each one needs different chemistry:
- Oil and transmission fluid — degreaser and dwell time; older stains that have soaked deep may lighten rather than vanish
- Rust — from irrigation water, fertilizer or metal furniture. Needs an oxalic or specialty rust remover, never pressure
- Red clay — a Georgia specialty; usually comes up well
- Battery acid and paint — sometimes, sometimes not
- Leaf and mulch tannin — the brown shadows left where organic matter sat all winter

The slip hazard nobody thinks about
The green-black film on a shaded walkway or pool surround is algae, and when it's wet it's genuinely slick. On steps and pool decks it's the one part of this work that's about more than looks.
